  • Why is Bose so popular?:

Going all the way back to the Bose 901’s new window (and farther) the company began a campaign of branding and word association that remains with them to this day. A few examples of words that have become synonymous with Bose are: Direct Reflecting, Acoustimass, and Waveguide. (link)

  • Barry Bonds BALCO scandal

I’m watching the Giants/Padres game tonight and have noticed the commentators making it a point to mention the Barry Bonds BALCO scandal every ten minutes or so. They’ve also shown Bonds getting booed during the team introductions at least three times so far. And it’s only the second inning.

  • Google Earth April Fools

The people of Google yesterday superimposed this picture of “visitors” onto their satellite image of Area 51. It appears they’re enjoying a nice barbecue by their spaceship.

Replica Time Circuits Prop Back to the Future DeLorean

The Time Circuits feature in all three movies and no DeLorean Time Machine is complete without them. The casing is made from aluminium and is designed to fit over your DeLorean dash covering the air vents and radio. It’s easy to take in and out of the car so you don’t need to keep the time circuits in all the time.

The Time Circuits are fully operational. That means that the time and date on each row can be set by the keypad. Unfortunately, you will need a working DeLorean time machine and 1.21 GigaWatts of power in order to actually travel through time.

The electronics within the unit include 39 16-segment displays in three colours red, green and yellow, a custom-programmed microcontroller and display drivers. The unit runs from a 12V supply. The keypad is fitted to the base of the chassis and has a numeric keypad and illuminated lights and switches.

This unit draws less than 0.5A but should be run from a secondary battery if you plan to leave it on at a car show. (link)

Very nice. But for about $1500, I think I’ll pass and instead invest in developing a flux capacitor.

  • At least 30 more ISPs subpoened by DOJ – this time not just Google

A freedom of information request by Informationweek has revealed that the Department of Justice is seizing data from at least 30 Internet Service Providers:

In its effort to uphold the Child Online Protection Act, the U.S. Department of Justice is leaving no stone unturned. In addition to America Online, MSN, and Google, the government has demanded information from at least 34 Internet service providers, search companies, and security software firms, InformationWeek learned through a Freedom of Information Act request.
    …

..it has issued subpoenas to a broad range of companies that includes AT&T, Comcast Cable, Cox Communications, EarthLink, LookSmart, SBC Communications (then separate from AT&T), Symantec, and Verizon.

And you thought it was bad when they went after Google.
