My Dell Mini 10v running OSX

Apple today pushed the latest OSX update, 10.6.5. I can happily report that the update does not break a Hackintosh install on the Dell Mini 10v.

If you’re currently running a previous edition of 10.6.x or earlier, here’s how to safely upgrade to 10.6.5:

  1. Run the latest version of Netbook Installer [direct link to file] set to defaults
  2. Restart your machine
  3. Install the update through Software Update
  4. Restart

You’ll find it helpful to repair disk permissions through disk utility. I also ran a CleanMyMac session.

the 10.6.5 update addresses a number of fixes, according to Apple, including:

  • Improves reliability with Microsoft Exchange servers.
  • Addresses performance of some image-processing operations in iPhoto and Aperture.
  • Addresses stability and performance of graphics applications and games.
  • Resolves a delay between print jobs.
  • Addresses a printing issue for some HP printers connected to an AirPort Extreme.
  • Resolves an issue when dragging contacts from Address Book to iCal.
  • Addresses an issue in which dragging an item from a stack causes the Dock to not automatically hide.
  • Resolves an issue in which Wikipedia information may not display correctly in Dictionary.
  • Improves performance of MainStage on certain Macs.
  • Resolves spacing issues with OpenType fonts.
  • Improves reliability with some Bluetooth braille displays.
  • Resolves a VoiceOver issue when browsing some websites with Safari 5.
  • Improves Bluetooth pairing with Magic Trackpad.
  • Resolves performance issues with third-party displays that use InstaPort technology.
  • Add SSL support for transferring files with iDisk.
  • Resolves an issue when opening 4-up Photo Booth pictures in Preview.
  • Addresses keyboard responsiveness issues in the Dock when Spaces is turned on.
  • Resolves an issue syncing Address Book with Google.
  • Fixes an issue when replying to a Mail message sent by a person whose name contains certain characters such as é or ü.
  • Improves performance for users bound to an Active Directory domain.
  • Improves reliability of Ethernet connections.

  • Improves reliability of fibre channel connections, resolving a potential Xsan volume availability issue.

    no go!! was able to boot up but no wireless
    I tried to turn on the wireless in the network setting.. no go
    ran the netbook installer and restarted
    Then “Power off” screen…

    3 hours…priceless

    For those who report it not working- can you confirm whether or not your machine is a 10v (1011) and not a 1010 or 1012? I have a 10v with 10.6.4 and would like to update if it won’t crash it. Thnx.

        That’s great. Thanks. Can I just do all the updates available for the system? Or should I just do the 10.6.5? The other updates are iLife Support, Java for Mac OS X 10. Update 3, Remote Desktop Client Update, and Airport Base Station Update 2010-001. If not no big deal.
        That also bring another question to mind- will iLife ’11 run on this or will it cause problems?

        iLife updates- but what about the iLife suite? Is that running on your system?

        On 10.6.5 right now. Noticed it put back in extensions I deleted for the 10.6.4 update. (ATI, GeForce, NVD, and AppleIntelGMAX3100) Allegedly having all those can cause a kernal panic… Wonder if I should delete them again…

        Run NBI again with default settings, then restart, and repair your
        disk permissions, Matt. I think free that you’ll be squared away.

        Restart one more time, and your sound should be fine. Some people are reporting the second restart fixes that.

        Cool. I’m doing disk permissions now. Will reboot when it’s done. The CleanMyMac is great, but only clears up to 500mb on the trial. Is there another free program that works similarly? Thanks for your help on this. I appreciate it.

        Try Onyx. It’s a great cleaning utility for OSX. It’s free and does a great job. I’ve used it for more than a year without a problem.

        Could I send you a gmail chat? It’d be easier to communicate that way. Then whatever results I get I can post for others. So far so good, besides sound, which hopefully will work after second reboot.

    I probably could have gotten it working, but I got impulsive and tried to fix the sound in my own ways without reading. Re-installing 10.6.4 and sticking there until it’s a non-issue update. Thanks Michael for the help.

    Some great suggestions here – thanks a bunch!
    I updated my Mini 10v from 10.6.4 to 10.6.5 Wednesday evening, and things appeared to go flawlessly, though since then I’ve noticed my audio has been going missing almost every other reboot, or when it goes to sleep. So, I’m trying the suggestions people have posted above, and hopefully I’ll be back on track.

    I accidently updated to 10.6.5 through Software Update, and now my audio doesn’t work at all (I have a Dell Mini 10). Any advice on how to fix this? Is there an easy way to revert back to 10.6.4?
