• Comcast Censors ABC’s Nightline

Remember the Comcast technician who fell asleep on the customer’s couch I recently reported? Check this out.

Think there’s no reason for Congress to pass net neutrality laws? Consider this: Comcast recently censored ABC’s Nightline on its Comcast Broadband TV service by deleting the part of the broadcast that said a Comcast technician was sleeping on a customer’s couch instead of installing residential broadband. UPDATE: ABC said they confim it was an editing error on their part. If so, the gaffe should be seen at any of their ABC News Now vendors, which include which include AOL, Bellsouth, SBC/Yahoo and Verizon. We’re still working on scanning and uploading the AOL manual, so if any readers want to go and try and corroborate with snagged video clips and send them to us, that would be awesome.

UPDATE:: Comcast says the feed has been repaired and can be seen on their site here (requires subscription). They also say the problem was replicated for all their outlets, not just Comcast. Without any other verification available at this time, we’ll have to take their word for it. No complaints were heard from from users of the four other services.

  • World’s largest nuclear explosion: Tsar 50 megaton bomb

Tsar Bomba (Russian: Царь-бомба, literally “Emperor-bomb”) is the Western name for the largest, most powerful nuclear explosive ever detonated. Developed by the Soviet Union, the ~100 megaton bomb (later caped at 50 megatons) was codenamed Ivan (Russian: Иван) by its developers.

The bomb was tested on October 30, 1961 in Novaya Zemlya, an island in the Arctic Sea. The device was scaled down from its original design of 100 megatons to minimize nuclear fallout.
